U-100 vs U-40 insulin syringes

Insulin syringes are graduated in units, not millilitres. The scale differs:

Draw the same 0.10 mL and a U-100 reads 10 units while a U-40 reads 4 units — same liquid, different scale. Always match the number to the barrel you actually hold.

What "mcg per unit" means

It is the micrograms of peptide carried in a single syringe unit for your reconstitution: concentration in mcg/mL divided by the units-per-mL of your syringe. Once you know it, re-dosing is one multiplication instead of four.

mg, mcg and the 1000 rule

1 mg = 1000 mcg. Most peptide doses are quoted in mcg while vials are labelled in mg, so a single ×1000 keeps the two in the same language before any division.

Doses per vial

Total peptide in mcg ÷ dose in mcg. A 10 mg vial at 500 mcg is 10000 ÷ 500 = 20 doses. The calculator rounds down, because a part-dose left in the vial is not a full one.
